All about Us...Coffee, Cupcakes and eating CrazyBeautiful!!!
Ophelia's Cup opened 5 August 2002, joining the business community
of South Whittle Avenue in a wonderful building restored to its historic grandeur.
It all began with a longing, you could say, for "someplace to go, with something to
do..." Traci was a Missouri Girl transplanted to Olney (Jay taught at the high school in '68 and '69, and had been in
Jasper County for years and years) and with two little boys at home she was admittedly, unabashedly lonesome for conversation,
people watching, and a cup of something warm and wonderful in her hands.
So she pestered Jay, and he loves her so he agreed and
a coffee shop was created.
Many brainstorms later, and a more than a few road trips to some other cool hangouts
in the Midwest, the mountainous southeast, and parts far West, Ophelia's Cup was born.
(Yes, Ophelia was the dreamer in Shakespeare's Hamlet, and
besides their similar propensity to ponder, Traci just liked the name).
With a new set of walls to decorate (and redecorate) and
the potential for happy hungry people to feed, the plunge was taken!
We are astoundingly happy that we are still here, still seeing
happy, hungry people day after day!
We wanted to create for Olney a place for a good cup of coffee, a freshly baked
cinnamon roll, and a creative, relaxing environment...but, of course, it has become so much more!
Interesting books and games, eclectic music, deliciously creative food and drinks and,
of course, intriguing people add to the wonderful, inviting mix that IS Ophelia's Cup!
Thank you for coming into our little cafe, and for supporting our dream of bringing
the "world in a cup" to Olney.
Jay, Traci, Wyatt and Brady...and all of the Cupcakes at Ophelia's!
